About the MDCTA

The MDCTA organizes a nationally recognized Horse Trial in June at Shawan Downs in Hunt Valley, Maryland. This competition offers levels Beginner Novice through Preliminary. The club also holds two unrecognized horse trials. Jenny Camp is the weekend following the Recognized Horse Trials at the beautiful Shawan Downs.  Our second unrecognized event takes place in October. 

Membership offers opportunities to compete at reduced rates in MDCTA organized events, schoolings etc, Members may also qualify for year end awards at the annual MDCTA banquet. Perpetual trophies are awarded to the highest points winner per division. Other member benefits include a monthly newsletter of events,  a comprehensive Area 2 Calendar of Events.

An Annual Banquet is held at the end of the year to gather and award the Year End Awards.

The Annual Year End Awards are presented at all levels; from Horse of the Year (both Junior and Senior) recognizing athletes competing at all levels.  Ribbons and trophies are awarded. Over $500 worth of Scholarships are given by the Grants Committee on the basis of dedication to the sport, volunteerism, interest in the sport and unique needs.
