Gallop/Meter/Pace Clinic with
5* Rider Woodge Fulton

Want to improve your pacing, timing, and galloping position?

What You Will Learn
  • Correct galloping position and balance
  • Developing a feel for the correct speed using your watch
  • How to safely maintain and understand the appropriate speed for your level
What You Will Do
  • Practice cantering and galloping at various speeds appropriate to your level on a metered grass track.
    • 175 meters per minute for Introductory level
    • Up to 570 mpm for Preliminary (Classic Steeplechase speed)

Sign up for the level you can comfortably gallop over plain cross country jumps on fairly level ground (no steep slopes or sharp turns).  If not competing, you’ll need to be comfortable riding an average canter.

  • MCTA Member Riders:  $115

Simply (haha) place your hands together behind your back and mount.  If you’ve already seen this on social media here’s your chance to give it a try.

SAFETY FIRST!  Use a safe horse and have a holder for safety.

Judging

Two levels – Assisted, Unassisted.  Judged based on Fluidity and Steadiness.

Cross Country Schooling
at Shawan Downs 2024

(Weather permitting)

June 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th (Mon – Thurs) – Open Schooling
10:00am – 8:00pm
(Starter thru Training levels only; no Modified or Prelim)
Practice for an event or simply enjoy riding at Shawan Downs without the pressure of competing. Also a way for our beloved volunteers to spend their MCTA bucks!

Cost (per horse/day): Non-MCTA Members $60. MCTA Members $50. Want to join MCTA?

Signed waivers are required.  Print and bring your signed release form with you.  Limited paper copies may be available.  Course will close at posted hours each evening.
